Cat Needs (b. 2002) is a sculptor and installation artist based in South London.
Her work follows introspective narratives whilst broaching universally interconnective experiences. She discusses grief, as a personal experience and abstract idea, non-linear trajectories, psychology, mental health and critical world views, using an allegorical and sometimes humorous tone to convey her introspections. She uses predominantly found materials, redefining them as a way to make her experiences live outside of herself.
Since Graduating Fine Art: Painting at Camberwell College of Arts in 2024, her practice has continued to develop, showing work consistently across London. Galleries she has exhibited at include Bargehouse OXO tower, Southwark Park Galleries, The Handbag Factory, and The Old Waiting Room and The Gallery, Lillie Road.
Growing Sideways Projects:
Cat has been interested in queer space for the past few years, specifically using queer theory to digest the interaction between queerness and art, and using art as a tool to generate queer space.
This has led towards ‘Growing Sideways Projects’ - a FLINTA arts organisation founded in 2025 which she co-runs with artist Jesse Buergel. Named after queer theorist Kathryn Bond Stockton’s concept, Growing Sideways Projects creates oppertunities for upcoming FLINTA artists to exhibit work, fascilitate workshops and events, whilst connecting with the wider community.
